Warning: this is a pretty big Wall Of Text. Most of it's just backstory, but some of you might be interested in it.

tl;dr: It's an old thing I made for a class project about two years ago, I thought of re-doing it from scratch, blah blah blah.

Progress. It's slow but I'll get there EVENTUALLY

The first four weapons are in the crap demo, but they're getting tweaks to balance them.
Mainly Spreader. Especially Spreader. Level 3 Spreader is just ridiculously powerful.

    Basic Cannon: A weak starting weapon with decent RoF. You want to upgrade or change it as soon as you can.
    Double Laser: Piercing shots with a higher speed and RoF than the Basic Cannon. Use it to attack through a line!
    Spreader: A four-shot spread with a small gap in the center. Best used at a distance against enemy crowds.
    Power Missile: This attack has serious firepower and can also cause splash damage. It's painfully slow, however.
    Reflector: A powered-up version of the Basic Cannon. It raises a protective barrier while under Focus.
    Hidden Soul: A sixth weapon that changes its form depending on the player character.
    + Plus Burner: Sends fireballs outward in a plus shape. Useful for attacking enemies out of your frontal range.
    + Twin Freeze: Launches twin icicles from the player's sides. They split into small ice shards on enemy contact.
    + Ghoul Shield: Hold a charge to form an offensive shield. Release the charge for a short-range ripping spread.
    Soul Burst: A Touhou-style critical attack. You can use it when out of Bombs by lowering your Weapon Level instead.
    + Break Hadou: Blasts two waves of fireballs in front, then launches waves of fireballs from the sides.
    + Beam Lance: Icicles lance out on either side of a powerful sweeping laser. The laser deals immense damage.
    + Lost Spirits: Stray souls spread in randomish directions, flooding the area. A very useful screen clearer.

All the enemy sprites I've been making are for this game.

I went ahead and tried this for the Hell of it.  My two biggest complaints are:
1)  Bullet Hell + object with big hit box = annoying as Hell.  The addition of actual health really doesn't make up for this.
2)  I honestly couldn't tell what the shift key was supposed to do.

Other than that, it seems pretty good for a first project.  I used that same 1942 demo for a shooter I was working on!

Shift makes you move slower (a la Focus in regular Touhou games). For now all it does is halve your movement speed, but in the finished product it makes your bullets travel slightly faster.

The hitbox only covers the center of the plane (the cockpit) so you can "graze" bullets past the wings. It is a bit large though, so I should probably shrink it down some.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't focus also show your hitbox in the Touhou games?  I only played one of them once and was told later that that feature existed so I don't know for sure.

In EOSD, no. But in every game after that it does, and the hitboxes for the bullets were made a lot easier to detect.

you can make this into something a lot better. A few suggestions though.
#1, make the hitbox smaller. I mean, A LOT smaller. make it to where the hitbox only covers the very center of the plane, and can be seen while focusing.
#2, change the controls to make them less clunky. instead of wasd, use the arrow keys, and use z to fire and shift to focus.
#3, (optional) add bombs.

I'm already making the hitbox smaller and adding bombs (referred to as Soul Burst), though I have to disagree with you on the controls. I hate arrow key games with a passion and always used WASD to do things, so that's why I made the controls WASD. Though if you didn't know, you could also use the arrow keys to move in Single Player if you like.

If you've been wondering why I'm making Find Mii enemies for a bullet hell, it's because Nido is the ice character. Cue rage.

Try and guess the other two characters!

I know what you mean, but I'm so used to touhou controls. Could you make the controls customizable?

The first boss (if you can get to it) is a Giant Airplane.
It's not that hard to get to it... I mean, as long as you know how to dodge simple danmakus. The bullets aren't even OHKO.
